3. How long would a Co-op student work for us?
Students work full-time for a four or an eight-month work period. To meet the challenging demands of today's dynamic firms, the co-op work terms have been scheduled in a way that allows maximum flexibility for employers and students. You have the opportunity to hire co-op students year round with start dates in January, May and September. Because of the design of the co-op program, it may be possible for you to obtain year round coverage by alternating students at your work site. Therefore the co-op program can be used for short or long-term needs. Student must work at least 12 weeks to complete a co-op work term.
4. Can we hire the student when he or she graduates?
Although you are not making permanent hiring commitments when you employ co-op students, co-op has proven to be an effective recruitment tool. Co-op provides a "trial period" during which you can assess a student's long-term potential.
5. Is it possible to hire a student for the summer only?
Yes. Many of our students will be doing work terms during the summer months. Remember, students must work at least 12 weeks to complete a co-op term.
6. How much does a student get paid?
The salary is determined by you, and is reflective of your particular industry. Benefits are allotted at your discretion. Health insurance coverage of all students remains in effect while they are on the co-op job. The average salary for co-op students usually depends on how many work terms they have previously completed or how much experience they are bringing with them to the role. More detailed statistics can be obtained on our salary guidelines page.
