The Health & Wellness Centre also administers the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for international students, exchange students and returning Canadians in their 3 month Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) wait period registered at this campus.
Students who have a current student card and valid health card are welcome to use the services at the Health & Wellness Centre.
There are health services not covered under your health card that would require direct payment by the student requesting the service. Examples include, third party requests for physicals or TB tests, some vaccinations and other uninsured treatments (such as non plantar warts, missed appointments).
UHIP, the University Health Insurance Plan, is a compulsory plan for all students of the University of Toronto and their dependents who are not covered by OHIP (the Ontario Health Insurance Plan). This includes international students, exchange students and returning Canadians in their 3 month OHIP wait period.
The plan covers students and their dependents for most doctors and hospital visits in Ontario to the same level as OHIP coverage. Once participants have been issued a card by the UHIP office at the International Student Centre downtown, the card is transported to the Health & Wellness Centre for students at the Scarborough campus to pick up.
To pick up the UHIP card students are required to present their fees invoice statement and their University of Toronto Student card at the front desk of the Health & Wellness Centre. Students will be presented with their UHIP card and information on how to use the plan. This is the card that students will show as their Health Card.
For more information about UHIP, please visit www.uhip.ca, or visit the front desk at the Health & Wellness Centre.
The Health & Wellness Centre requires 24 hours notice of cancellation for all appointment. Students can visit or call the front desk at 416-287-7065 to cancel. A message can be left on voicemail.
For missed appointments a fee of $25-$50/appointment will be charged. For missed appointments with a psychiatrist a fee of $150/appointment will be charged.
